BUSINESS VISION
Are You Headed in the Right Direction?

by Bonita M. W. Shelby

God Has Already Worked It Out; We Must Walk It Out!

The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9
I Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize?
So run, that ye may obtain. 1Cor 9:24

How do you even know whether or not you are headed in the right direction? Be assured, through rejection and correction you will find the right direction.

In walking out your business vision, it is important to do something, to take action. If you don’t do anything, then you will never know whether you are on the right track.

The first scripture above says to me that you may have many plans, however, if you don’t know that you know that they are from God before implementing them, surely after implementing them you will find out if they are the Lord’s plans for your path. Ideally, it would be wonderful to know that you know before moving forward, however, in actuality, you don’t always know that you know. Unless you are to stand still for further directions from the Lord, then you may venture out with your plans and find that on the one hand, they were from God or on the other hand, they were not from God and you are then directed to the right path.

There is nothing wrong with making ‘mistakes’ on your way to the prize. In fact, these ‘mistakes’ become learning experiences that equip/qualify you to share with others who come down your pathway so that they can be enriched and encouraged.

Part of the business strategies and planning process involves defining, implementing, analyzing, testing, evaluating and adjusting business strategies and plans. Through this process, you will be rejected, corrected and directed to what works for your particular business and situation.

As an example, in marketing the business, you will find that you may encounter many people or other businesses in your quest to seek clients or customers. However, as part of the process of elimination, you will be rejected by many of them or reject them, however, for those that are yours, they will resonate with you and there will be mutual acceptance not rejection. In order to find the one, two or few new client(s) or customer(s) in the sea of prospects, you must venture out and not take the rejection personally but accept it as part of the process of obtaining new clients (the prize).

The second scripture above says to me that many start out to run the race, however, there is only one that receives the prize. You have to know, that our God has made each one of his children victors in the race that He has set them out to run. You will win the prize. It is a done deal through the finished work on the cross by Jesus Christ. However, you must run the race in order to get the prize. This reminds me of the scripture that says, ‘many are called but few are chosen’; with a further interpretation made by a TV evangelist that the chosen show up; and in this case, show up to claim their prize. They start out in the race, they face and press through obstacles, make ‘mistakes’ and ultimately get to the end to get their designated prize.

Don’t be afraid to define and implement strategies and plans. Be sure to have ways to measure and determine where you are in relation to where you should be. If you are seeking the Lord’s direction for your business, you must believe that He is leading or allowing you to go down this pathway, either because it is the right pathway or because it will ultimately work for your good or for the good of others that will come down your pathway. We walk by faith and not by sight. It is a different kind of walk than what we have been programmed to do in the past. Rejection and correction will lead you to the right direction. Don’t be afraid of rejection and correction; embrace it having confidence in God that He is directing you to your prize.
